That’s not true. Since there are only six million cars on earth, most people are looking for their flip flops, not their keys.
After 56 exciting years on this third rock from the sun, I have been through what author Gail Sheehy calls “passages.”
Ironically, the title of her book is “Passages.” Even more ironic is the fact that I’ve never read it.
I did scan the book during one of my passages as an employee of Walden Books back in 1976. Sheehy says (Warning: spoiler alert!) that during life we go through some…. changes.
I didn’t really buy the premise of the book back then. I thought I’d always have long hair, live in Austin, make $4.25 an hour, drive an old van, and sell books for a living.
I believe it now.
And here’s the Tao according to Steve: Take it easy on yourself.
We all love you just the way you are. No, I’m serious! Ask anyone.
The hardest person to please is the man in the mirror. See! I NEVER thought I’d be quoting Michael Jackson. It’s another passage!
Stop beating yourself up! As a matter of fact, you should go outside right now, look up into God’s blue sky, take three or four deep breaths of air, close your eyes, and say to yourself, “Oh hell, I’m OK after all.”
I know, only a few of you actually did that just now. I have a name for folks like you… HAPPY.
Thought for the week: Take it easy on yourself. (Read that somewhere…)
I have really really enjoyed reading your blogs! In fact, this one is exactly what I needed today! The references you use and your use of wit are so intriguing! Please keep 'em coming! I'm a huge fan!
ReplyDeleteWell, it's about time you got back in the ol' literary saddle. BELO was too long ago. Your fans await....
ReplyDeleteNice post, Steve. Glad you finally got the chance to work with Michael Jackson. I know that's been a dream of yours. Looking forward to more great stuff. Keep it up, brother!
